Heart of Borneo Part 1

Local Government in the interior of Borneo (West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan)have seen the potential of ecotourism as an asset and begin to develop the district development ecotourism and make it as a source of local revenue. This is particularly the case in the District Malinau and Kapuas Hulu regency which has declared itself as a "Conservation District" and committed to make conservation as a basis for development that is able to prosper and environmentally friendly society.

Heart of Borneo is located in the border areas of BIMP-EAGA cooperation which serves countries Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. In the scope of Indonesia, this region lies in rural areas mountains are generally inhabited by Dayak community, with tropical forest cover is still extensive and a mosaic of man-made landscape of agricultural land, has made the Heart of Borneo as a border for new tourism development.

Kayan Mentarang National has built local capacity to manage the ecotourism business
community-based alternatives in order to build a sustainable economy and help communities protect their forests. Ecotourism pilot project area has potential that is the beauty of landscapes, nature of interest, historic heritage and hospitality of the people local. Strategic networking among communities and various eco-tourism initiatives along the border with Malaysia (Sarawak and Sabah) have been formed in the Heart of Borneo.
