Ecotourism in Indonesia (part 1)

Year 2002 is the year of Ecotourism and Mountains in Indonesia. From the various workshops and discussions held during the year in various regions in Indonesia, both by central and local government, formulated 5 (five) basic principles of ecotourism development in Indonesia, namely:

Preservation
The principle of sustainability in tourism is ecotourism activities that do not cause damage and pollution of the environment and local culture.
One way of implementing this principle is to use local resources are energy efficient and managed by the community. Not only people, but tourists also have to respect and participate in the preservation of nature and culture in the areas he visited. Better yet, if the income from ecotourism can be used for conservation activities at the local level. For example, by the way a percentage of the profits contributed to buy the trash and pay the person who will manage the waste.

Education
Tourism activities are carried out should provide an element of education. This can be done in several ways such as by providing interesting information such as name and benefits of plants and animals that exist in the vicinity of tourist areas, the leaves are used for drug or in everyday life, or indigenous beliefs and customs of local communities. This educational activity for tourists will encourage the preservation of nature and culture. This activity can be supported by a tool such as brochures, leaflets, booklets or information boards.
