Definition Of Ecotourism (part 1)

Ecotourism must be understood through the two sides: 1) Ecotourism from terms of concept and 2) Ecotourism in terms of the market.

Ecotourism from terms of concept
Ecotourism is responsible tourism which is in natural places, as well as contribute to the preservation of the public welfare local (Ties - The International Ecotourism Society, with little modification).
According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Republic of Indonesia, ecotourism is a concept of sustainable tourism development that aims to support efforts to conserve the environment (natural and cultural) and to increase participation communities in the management, thus providing economic benefits to local communities and government. Ecotourism has many definitions are entirely principled on tourism activities are based on five key elements namely:
  • Provide experience and education to tourists that can increase understanding against tourist destination visited. Education is provided through an understanding of the importance of environmental conservation, while experience is provided through the activities of a creative tour accompanied by excellent service.
  • Minimizing the negative impact that could damage the environment and cultural characteristics in the areas visited.
  • Involve the community in the management and implementation.
  • Provide economic benefits especially to local communities, for that, ecotourism activities should be profitable (profitable).
  • Can continue to survive and sustainable.
In ecotourism, the principle of responsibility and respect nature and the local culture becomes very important. Tourists must adapt to the culture and local situation, not vice versa. Travelers should also realize the importance of preservation environment and respect the culture of the region he visited.
